Project description

The project MIGRAIN aims at investigating the questions and social impacts of the migration and immigration in Europe, stressing the need of including the citizens in understanding their main interests and participating in the formulation of answers to these questions. The partnership consists of 8 project partners, representing 7 EU countries. Eight events are to be organized by the different partners in different towns. Each meeting holds for 3 days . The total number of the participants in the eight meetings are expected 542, minimum 30% will be invited international participants. The applicant partner is the Municipality Cieszanów (PL); two towns belongs to a twinning network around Cieszanów, and the others partners were also included in common project activities.

The theme of the project relates to a very relevant European subject, namely the migration of citizens, and also the immigration of people toward the EU countries. The free movement of the citizens is a significant achievement of the EU legal structure which has changed the life prosperity of a lot of citizens. It is well known, however, that this possibility comprises several dangers as regards the balance of the societies, for example it can support brainstorming, unbalances in workforce supply, tension in the society, ethnic and minority problems, it can induce slow but effective changes in the entire society. Therefore the questions of migration and immigration have become key elements of the actual politics of the recent Greek and the next Italian EU Presidency.

Research programs are in progress to reveal the essence of these activities, and a number of statistical investigations have been made in order to see clearly. The attitude of the countries from different part of Europe are differing, the migration trend shows direction toward the richer countries like Germany, Great Britain. The citizens of the Eastern and Southern countries generally move to Western directions, and the increasing number of the migrants can mean threaten for the reception societies. Countries like Poland and Hungary have introduced measures for returning this process, e.g. by offering better work conditions at home for the high level workforce.

Project like our one can give support for understanding the real questions and the see the connections between the fact faced during the daily life. The composition of the recent partnership ensures that the interests of the different parties are represented in the project, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences will contribute to the development of the consciousness of the citizens.
